The strange but true life and times of Washington, DC
I read your article on Buchanan Elementary School playground that didn’t evolve. I attended that school and remember Lady Bird and I breaking ground for what I thought at age twelve, a playground was going to be dug. The article was front page news in the paper of us breaking ground with the shovel. Can’t seem to find that picture anywhere. I did however receive a biography of it being mentioned. do you e any souces to this reference?
Thanks for your note, Charity. The Buchanan Elementary School playground is a fascinating example of good intentions gone awry. We found most of our materials through the DC Historical Society and internet research. Your best bet for finding the image is to contact the Washington Post or visit the DC Historical Society at Carnegie Library. Happy hunting!
